Acts 435 does not seek to be a stand-alone charity but to work in conjunction with other charities as together we reach out to those in need. Here are a few organisations that we recommend.
Debt
-
Christians Against Poverty
A national debt counselling charity which offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in-depth service.
-
Credit Action and the Money Advice Map
An excellent tool to guide you in how to address your problems with debt and where to go for help.
-
Credit Union
An effective, friendly and helpful alternative to banks to help you manage your money - loans and savings accounts are two of the services offered.
-
Community Money Advice
A national charity that enables community groups to establish local debt advice centres to reach anyone in need with unconditional, quality advice.
-
Citizens Advice Bureau
Comprehensive advice on managing your money and ensuring you are receiving everything you are entitled to.
Furniture
-
Furniture Re-use Network
Identifies places around the country where you can obtain second-hand furniture at no cost.
-
Freecycle
Freecycle is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) different items, large and small, for free in their own towns. Membership is free and by joining the group in your town or city, you will get potential access to the things you need.
We encourage all our local advocates to explore their local Freecycle in case an item an applicant needs is already being advertised through Freecycle. If you see a request for an item you are willing to donate and you are in the same geographical area as the applicant, please email admin@acts435.org.uk with the details of the item so that the local church/charity advocate can be put in touch with you.
Practical Help
-
St. Vincent de Paul Society
An international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need – irrespective of ideology, faith, ethnicity, age or gender. Befriending is one of the many services offered by SVP volunteers.
Church Resources
-
Church Urban Fund
If you are seeking funding for a project impacting those in poverty in England, the Church Urban Fund Mustard Seed grants could be just the place for you.
-
Livability Community Mission team
Livability (formerly the Shaftesbury Society), has a department called the Community Mission team which exists to equip and challenge churches to make their community more livable for everyone. They would love to hear from churches struggling in this area. They work in partnership with Tearfund to provide the Community Mission website and a monthly Enews.
