She has moved from a furnished to an unfurnished rental and is unable to meet the cost of setting up her new home. Our client is unable to work, due to her health, and is reliant upon Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment. This leaves her little after essential outgoings. This gentleman has lived in temporary supported accommodation for two and a half years. Before this he was sleeping rough in doorways for a long time after a mental breakdown. He has worked hard to get to the point where he is ready to have his own accommodation, including most recently being gifted a little dog to care for, which has given him more confidence. This gentleman is moving into his own flat and is in need of a fridge freezer.

S is a single parent with a four year old child whose current washing machine has broken down. She is on Universal Credit, has no savings and has lots of debts. Following advice from Step Change, some of her benefit is taken to repay debts to various agencies. This is, therefore, reducing her available money to purchase a replacement machine.
