E and his sister, who live in the same property, are vulnerable and did not like to tell people that they were not able to cope. Their benefits have changed and they are waiting to find out if they can get any help, but have been told it could take several weeks. They now have a support worker who has been able to provided them with food, but they need gas to cook with and electric for lighting and heating. Currently, they rely on food banks and eat sandwiches. These sibling are in a lot of debt and struggling financially.
S, who worked with us last year to go debt free, has been saving and managing her money much better. She was proud she had bought Christmas Presents, kept the house warm and had not gone into debt, very different to previous years. Her washing machine has just broken and, as she has not been able to save up again, is currently having to take her washing to her mum's house, who she helps look after, following a stroke. S is finding this difficult as she doesn't drive and it's taking a toll on her mental health.
M, who is sixty three years of age, recently moved to our area to be closer to her son, who is in ill health, so she can help care for him. She suffers with anxiety, but is determined to find a job, as she currently only receives UC. M tries really hard to make her money last, but after bills have been paid she has very little left for food and to top-up the gas and electric meter. Her son tries to help where he can, but he struggles financially. M would be very grateful for any help. Thank you.
