A cooker to lighten the load

Pete* is a single dad who is on a low income. His cooker had been broken for a very long time, and he had been managing through food banks and friends cooking odd meals for the family.

Pete wanted to be able to cook proper homemade food for them all, but couldn't get the money together to help to buy a cooker, as he was struggling to pay his household bills.

The local Advocate heard of Pete's need for a cooker, and posted a request onto the Acts 435 website. Donors went onto the website and were able to give towards his request for help, and once the need was fulfilled the local Advocate helped to get Pete a cooker. He was very grateful for this help, and said:

"What a morning I’ve had, after dealing with kids not wanting to go school and my stress level off the charts. It’s hot and humid and all I want to do is shut the door on the world.

Then I get a call saying some complete strangers have donated to help me get a cooker, can you believe it because I thought someone was having a joke on me?

I know I’m a man, but honestly I got excited over a cooker - usually it’s football. Not telling kids, just gonna cook a lovely meal and when they open the door to come in, they will smell a lovely chicken smell and roasted potatoes. Thanks everyone, you’ve made my day."

This small gift of a cooker will make a big difference to the everyday lives of this family. It will enable them to eat more nutritionally, and help Dad to be less reliant on friends and family.
