School Uniform Appeal 2026
The summer holidays have only just begun for most families in the UK. However, many are already thinking about how they will afford the cost of school uniforms, and other equipment, in time for their children returning to school in September.
This thank you message came in from a local church who has been supporting a single mum, and one of her needs was uniform for her children:
Thank you so much for the donations made for this single mum to buy school uniform for all three of her children who, due to rehousing, are enrolling into a new school. School uniform is a financial strain, so having these funds has really helped her financial burden at a time when she is dealing with other pressures. Mum has been coming in to see the Advocacy Worker a number of times and has now purchased everything she needs, and she explained how truly grateful she is.
The cost of uniform, at any time of year, is a financial strain for many families.

This client is a 39-year-old father who has recently separated from his wife. Following a diagnosis of poor mental health, he has been unable to continue working and is now reliant on benefits. He shares the care of his two children, aged 10 and 4, but his reduced income means he is unable to afford essential school uniforms, including winter coats and school shoes for the new term. We are requesting support towards these costs to ensure the children can return to school with all they need.

He is not eligible for any benefits.The family is struggling financially for basic daily needs.They need to buy a child's uniform, bag and shoes. Also they need to get groceries. He has been working nights for a month on probation. C can't apply for a job until the children are both in school/nursery in September. They have arrears with rent and council tax. Their rent is high. This has had an impact on their finances and buying uniform is impossible. We are hoping you will be able to help.

She is a single mum with two children and is struggling to find the money to pay for the uniform her eldest child needs as she goes to secondary school in September. The uniform is expensive and she is anxious that she won't be able to buy what the school requires. Help with the uniform costs would be very much appreciated and make the summer holidays a lot easier to manage financially.

Total needed £100C is a mum of three children aged between 7-19 She has a number of health conditions including hypermobility, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and possible Parkinson’s disease. Her youngest child has autism, which results in him going through clothes regularly through his actions. One child is 11 and will be starting secondary school in September, she has already purchased the school specific uniform but is seeking support for all other school uniform for both of the school age children. Can you help?

She has a number of health conditions including degenerative disease and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes which weakens connective tissues. Two of her children have Attention Deficit Hyperactiviy Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder; one has hypermobility. Can you help her to purchase school uniform for her children?

As a result of this, the child and siblings were living in temporary housing with their dad, until a permanent home was arranged. The children had minimal belongings with them due to circumstances following their loss. Finances continue to be a huge struggle for the family.There is a concern at the moment that it won’t be affordable to purchase school uniform and school items such as stationery for the new upcoming academic year.

Total needed £150M has been coming to the foodbank this summer. Her husband had a bad bike accident requiring lengthy treatment, is struggling physically and is out of work at present, severely impacting his mental health. They have been moved here by the authorities recently and have just been informed of her daughter's new primary school. This is too late for the second-hand uniform shop, and M has no money or financial help for uniform. The contents of the flat is minimal, and so they are already in debt.
