C's Laptop for Life Changing Mentorship

At the start of the year our advocate from Open Door Church, Peterborough, posted a request on behalf of one of their clients, C.

You can read the request in full here:

“This lady is coming out of a troubled time and is wanting to support homeless prison leavers with housing by becoming a mentor. Since leaving prison, she has undertaken in-person training courses and would love to have access to online courses to develop her knowledge further. She is currently receiving Universal Credit and does not have the savings required to afford a laptop. Our church will donate an extra £170 on top of your support to assist her in purchasing the laptop.”

As a team we were moved by this story, as were our generous donors, who met the request in just three days! It’s incredible to be able to support individuals turning their lives around and stepping out to make a difference to their community. Her kindness and determination to support others is inspiring!

We received this thank you message from Open Door Church:

“It was a real joy to present the laptop to this lady this morning. Open Door Church, Peterborough matched the donations given by Acts 435 donors to buy a brand new laptop for C so she could continue her learning online. She was so thankful and just wanted to keep hugging me. Your generous gift is going to change her life and the lives of others. Her dream is to mentor other people who leave prison so they have a much better chance of not returning to prison life. Thank you so much.”

As a charity we often step in to support individuals at times of crisis, but as this example illustrates, there are items crucial to self-improvement, that will lead to employment and income, that cannot be attained with social-security benefits that just don’t stretch any further. We are delighted to have partnered with Open Door Church to support C, and pray she knows the kindness of strangers.

We pray those she goes on to support experience her kindness and that this gift has a long-lasting and transformative impact in the lives of prison leavers.

Thanks to Dave Key and Open Door Church for this brilliant photo of C and her new laptop!
