Blackpool continues to rank among the most deprived areas in the UK. However, Blackpool Church is determined to rewrite the headlines by providing hope, practical support, and community to those who need it most.

Around five years ago, Blackpool Church launched as a Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) resource church to serve the local area. At around the same time, they also became an Acts 435 partner church.

Local advocate Jack shared how their church benefits from using Acts 435 to provide practical support for people who need a helping hand: “Acts 435 is a brilliant way to get connected with your local community.”

Every Thursday, the church runs a drop-in service called Open House. Here volunteers are able to identify people in need of support, whether that’s replacing a broken fridge or helping with the cost of a school uniform. Often, it’s these simple, everyday items that make the biggest difference, especially for those who are struggling to afford even the basics.

Cath shared how Acts 435 helped her when her wheelchair broke down:

“I was stuck at home and I didn’t have the money to repair it. Thanks to Acts 435, I can start going out again, I’ve got my independence back!”

Jack also explained how the practical care and support shown through things like Acts 435 can open the door for someone to explore the Christian faith and become part of a church community.

Through the drop-in, Blackpool Church was able to support a couple who needed help with vehicle repairs. After receiving that practical support, they went on to join an Alpha course run by the church. Today, the whole family regularly attends church on Sundays and takes part in church life and activities.

Through Blackpool Church and the support of Acts 435 donors, practical help is restoring hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging for people across the community.
