A Day of Adventure, Hope and New Memories

At just 15 years old, Tom* has already experienced more challenges than many people face in a lifetime. Following the death of his father a few years ago, he has been navigating grief alongside a number of difficult circumstances.

Currently out of education and considered vulnerable to exploitation, Tom is helped by a support worker who supports him both emotionally and practically, encouraging him to build his confidence, improve his self-esteem and experience positive opportunities. Living in temporary accommodation with his mum, who is receiving benefits, finances are extremely limited, making days out like this simply out of reach.

Tom had developed a love of the outdoors and shared his wish to spend a day at Go Ape. It wasn't just about the adventure, it was about having the chance to leave his worries behind and make some happy memories.

Thanks to the generosity of Acts 435 donors, that wish became a reality.

Tom and his support worker enjoyed an unforgettable day at Go Ape and by all accounts, he absolutely loved it! While his support worker admitted she enjoyed the adventure a little less, especially navigating the ziplines and high ropes, however she proudly made it all the way around the course alongside him.

More importantly, she saw a remarkable change in Tom throughout the day:

“He was so relaxed and excited and all his problems fell off him for a little while.”

It was a rare opportunity for Tom to create positive memories, something that doesn't come along often. His mum was overjoyed that he had been able to experience something so uplifting, and everyone involved hopes this special day will help him believe that positive things really are possible for his future.

Thank you to each Acts 435 donor that gave to this special request. You gave a young person the opportunity to experience joy, build confidence, and create memories that will stay with him for years to come.
