The freedom to get out and about

Sarah* is an older lady who lives in Newton Abbot, Devon. She faces daily challenges with her health due to a worn disc and a torn ligament in her knee, which have left her unable to walk safely without assistance.

Everyday Sarah has to take painkillers prescribed by the doctor and sadly due to risks and complications they are unable to operate on her. As a result, Sarah found herself increasingly trapped in her own home, unable to get out and about safely on her own.

Being unable to get out and about was beginning to have a real impact on Sarah’s well-being.

A mobility aid with wheels, a brake and a seat would make all the difference but with very little money Sarah couldn’t afford to purchase one. She was relying on Personal Independence Payments and Pension Credit just to get by and the rising cost of living meant she was struggling to even cover the basic essentials.

That’s when Acts 435 donors stepped in. A small amount of £70 was raised to purchase a mobility aid for Sarah. She was thrilled by the kindness shown and now her granddaughter can take her out to various places without fear of any issues.

Sarah shared:

“Thank you so much, I am blessed. You don't know how much this will help me day by day and help with my movement and just even going out with my family to little ride outs with them to the park. I’m so grateful.”

Sometimes, even a small gift can have a huge impact, this is especially true for Sarah as she now has the freedom to get out of the house and enjoy little trips with her family.
