Shoes for school, instead of slippers
Starting again in the UK was no small task for this family, who arrived as refugees from Syria. Adapting to a new culture is challenging at the best of times, even more so while raising five children.
Their father was able to find work, but their mother, with limited English, spent most of her time at home and found it difficult to settle. With bills to pay and five children to care for, the family worked tirelessly just to get by. After covering essential expenses, there was little left for basics like clothing.

When the local primary school became aware of their situation, staff were able to provide some donated clothes for the younger children. This made a real difference, but one essential item was still missing, shoes.
In fact, their eldest daughter had been attending college in her father’s slippers, even in the rain.
That’s when a local church stepped in, with the support of Acts 435 donors, each of the five children received a new pair of shoes.
What might seem like a small gift has made a profound difference. A simple pair of shoes has restored confidence and dignity, especially for the eldest daughter, who no longer has to wear slippers to college. The family expressed heartfelt gratitude for the kindness shown to them.
