Turning a flat into a home

Pensioners across the UK are really feeling the squeeze right now. A new report from Age UK says that:

“One in three pensioners or 4.1 million individuals – are feeling less financially secure in 2025 compared to last year.”

With energy bills going up, food prices still rising and many pensioners relying on low or fixed incomes, it’s become a really tough situation for lots of people.

For Philip* in Halliwell, things hit home when he moved into a flat with no carpets. With the cost of living stretching his budget to the limit, carpets were simply out of reach.

That’s when St Peter’s Church in Halliwell stepped in. They shared Philip’s story on the Acts 435 website, which quickly connected them with a national carpet company willing to help. Donors then rallied together to raise enough funds to have carpets fitted by a local carpet fitter.

Thanks to the generosity of Acts 435 donors, Philip’s flat has been transformed into a warm and welcoming space. Not only does it mean he can now invite friends and family over, but the carpets will also help keep his home insulated during the colder months.

A small act of kindness has made a lasting difference – turning a bare flat into a true home where Philip can enjoy his later years in comfort.
