Turning a House into a Home

Life has been incredibly challenging for this family of two parents and six children since arriving in the UK as refugees. Having had to flee their home country and begin again somewhere unfamiliar, the process of building a new life has been difficult. Their situation became even more uncertain when their landlord sold the house they were living in, leaving them in emergency accommodation.

Thankfully, the family were able to find more permanent accommodation, but the property was completely unfurnished. While Mum and Dad managed to buy some essential items, their limited budget meant they were unable to afford a sofa or suitable seating for the family.

Without somewhere comfortable to sit together, the family found themselves sitting on the floor to eat meals each day. For a family with six children, this was uncomfortable and made everyday family life much harder.

A local church kindly shared the family’s need through the Acts 435 website, and thanks to the generosity of Acts 435 donors, the family were able to buy a sofa. This simple gift has made a huge difference; not only providing a comfortable place for the family to sit together, but also reminding them that their local community cares and that people they have never met wanted to support them.

The family were overjoyed and shared their heartfelt thanks with everyone who donated. This act of kindness has further enabled them to transform their house into a home bringing comfort, dignity and a sense of belonging as they continue to settle into life in the UK.
