Light Up Black and African Heritage Calderdale

Light Up Black and African Heritage Calderdale (LightUpBAHC) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering Black, African, Caribbean and ethnically diverse communities across Calderdale and the surrounding areas. We work to reduce inequality, promote inclusion, celebrate cultural heritage, and improve the health, wellbeing, education, and economic opportunities of the people we serve. Our mission is to create a stronger, more inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive regardless of their background. We achieve this by delivering projects that address digital exclusion, social isolation, mental health and wellbeing, youth development, employment support, community cohesion, and cultural celebration. LightUpBAHC delivers a wide range of community initiatives including digital skills training, IT equipment distribution, wellbeing programmes, refugee and migrant support, volunteering opportunities, cultural events, educational workshops, and community engagement activities. We work closely with local authorities, the NHS, schools, charities, businesses, and other voluntary organisations to maximise our impact. We are committed to ensuring that underrepresented communities have access to the information, skills, support, and opportunities they need to build resilient, healthy, and prosperous lives. Through partnership working and community-led solutions, LightUpBAHC continues to strengthen community cohesion while celebrating the rich diversity of Black and African heritage within Calderdale. Our vision is for an inclusive society where diversity is valued, barriers to opportunity are removed, and every individual is empowered to reach their full potential.
