An innovative charity, we provide employment and volunteering opportunities at a café in York. Through this, we break down the barriers to employment for those socially excluded and living on the fringes of our community. Our nurturing, person centred employment model, recognises the complex needs where our beneficiaries require additional support. We work with our beneficiaries for up to 12 months and as their confidence and self-esteem grows, we support them into further employment, continuing to mentor them in their new role. In addition to this we support the wider community through our Pay It Forward board, offering a free meal and drink to those in need. And we organise outreach activities in our community including well being and exercise sessions.

Current needs
I has had a difficult few years and has been living in a hostel. After a three-year wait, he finally has the keys to his own flat, a place he can call home. However, the flat is in poor condition and needs significant work, which is causing him stress and affecting his well-being. A £200 donation would allow us to bring in a decorator for two days to freshen the space and help I to feel settled and proud of his new home.

Total needed £200K is a care leaver who recently moved into his own flat after three years in a hostel. He has been without heating for months, and a broken bathroom window that won’t close is making the flat even colder. This is affecting both his and his partner’s physical and mental well-being, as well as their hygiene. A £200 donation would allow us to bring in a handyman to bleed the radiators and repair the bathroom window, fix the bathroom light and fix the shower.
