S, an expectant mum who has fled an abusive relationship, has a flat which is her first home, is in her name alone and it means everything. She tells me that she associates home with the smell of good things cooking and wants to make that sort of home for her baby. Her benefits do not stretch to a cooker and she is managing with a microwave and ready meals.
