York City Church

M is a young lady who was born in Iran to Afghan parents. She recently resettled in York with her mother and brother. M is keen to have the opportunity to attend college. In Iran she went to University to study Sciences and would love to get back to studying or science based work. M is working on rebuilding her self confidence and independence after years of unstable living. She is really keen to have and use a bike to get around York and for exercise and recreation in the area around where she lives.

A is a young Afghan man who recently arrived in York with his sister and Mum. He is very keen to work and discover more of his new city. Where they live is currently quite far from the main bus routes. He loves biking and is keen to use a bike for work. A never had the opportunity to attend school but is very practical and would like to work in construction. A bike would make a huge difference to his independence and support his access to different locations around York for work.

This family is Afghan. Mum is physically disabled and has two adult children. They have been stateless living in Iran for 20+ years and resettled into the UK, recently moving to their permanent home with only a few possessions. They have experienced serious hardships and trauma during their journey. They need some additional items for cooking, which they love to do. A microwave for easy meals for Mum. A pressure cooker for the daughter to make traditional Afghan food. A TV will help with English learning.
