Uttlesford Foodbank

Uttlesford Foodbank provides food and essentials to those in crisis throughout Uttlesford, North West Essex. We deliver between 5 - 7 days' worth of food and household products such as toilet roll and soap and work on a referral basis with all frontline agencies such as Citizens Advice, the county and district councils, mental health services etc. We also deal on a national level with the probation service and neighbouring councils. In addition, we provide wrap around support in the form of onward referrals and signposting to other organisations who can provide additional support. Our clients are individuals and families who are unable to feed themselves. They can be young or old, from a 17 year old who has just left the care system, a single parent who has not received their universal credit payment due to an administrative error, or a pensioner who has no funds available to purchase food after they have paid their utilities bills. We were set up in 2014; the Salvation Army was providing food on an informal basis, but the need to formalise the provision was recognised by the Salvation Army, District Council and Citizens Advice due to increasing demand in the district and the Foodbank was opened.
