£0 remaining for a cooker
This family, including two children, has been struggling with the uncertainly of homelessness for a few years and has recently secured a permanent place to live. They are living on a tight budget, struggling financially, and have been without a cooker for about four months. So far, all other avenues for help have not come through. They have been using a microwave instead, but would benefit from being able to have a working cooker in their new property. Thank you for considering this request!
S has just moved into his first secure tenancy after being homeless for a period of time. His floorboards are bare and he is looking for carpet for the living room, bedroom and hall. He will pay any excess himself, but has limited money as he is on Universal Credit. We have known S for seven months, having helped him get this flat and the furniture for it. He is attending our support group and a Bible study. S is working towards getting a job soon.
R, who has recently moved into his own accommodation, has been in a supported homeless hostel for two and a half years. He engaged with us, both in Newcastle and more recently in Edinburgh. R has completed our Barista training programme and has a part-time job in the community café he did his placement with. He is also volunteering with another café and starting to look for additional work, but is currently on Universal Credit. R would like to be able to get a mattress and bedding for his new flat.
This lone parent of three boys has had her washing machine break down. Mum is on Income Support, and two of the boys have additional needs, which means money is tight and she doesn't have the ability to afford a replacement. One of the boys has autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with sensory issues, meaning he will only wear certain clothes. Being able to wash his clothes in a timely manner is, therefore, particularly important. Having a washing machine will make mum's life a little easier and allow her to spend more time with her children.
