Give to someone in need
Acts 435 is about giving to people directly, to help them bridge the gap when they are facing a financial crisis.
Can you help a specific person in need?
Read stories of the applicants below and give as you feel able. Any amount will make a big difference to someone who is struggling.
You can instead make a general donation and the Acts 435 team will allocate it to the most urgent requests.

K was homeless and sleeping in a tent, but has recently secured a one bedroom flat which is unfurnished. He is unemployed and his benefits only just cover his daily living expenses, so he is not able to afford any furniture. K has no family support or connections to help him. Your help to purchase a cooker would mean that he can cook and eat more healthily and affordably, helping him to make the best possible start in his new tenancy, and to save towards other items.

Total needed £200D, who has fled a nearby city, due to violence, is scared for his life. He has come to Scarborough to be with family and to get a fresh start. D is very unwell with lung disease and three broken ribs. His family has pooled together to give him support and get his new home sorted out. D only has a bed that he really needs now, as he is currently sleeping on a sofa which isn't helping his lungs or ribs! Please could we help him get a bed so that he can finally feel that his new start has begun? Thank you!

Total needed £120A, a young man who is about to move into his own flat, has lived in our supported accommodation for twelve months, after a family breakdown led him to being homeless. A is a positive young man who is relishing the opportunity to have his own tenancy. He has progressed well, with our support, and is now confident to live independently. There is no carpet or flooring throughout the property and A cannot afford it himself, due to him sourcing a lot of essential items.

Total needed £200K, a resettled refugee from Afghanistan, is a single mother and, following some sensitive family issues, she is struggling to sleep and has high levels of stress. Despite this, she enjoys sewing and has hopes of becoming a seamstress. K is currently receiving Universal Credit and has little money to buy anything outside of day to day essentials.

Total needed £150This family had to flee a private, fully furnished, rented house, due to their daughter witnessing a stabbing; the court case is still pending. Mum is in need of wardrobes for herself and her daughter and two sets of drawers. At present, everything is still in bin bags, which is causing a lot of added stress, as this is a very tidy family on a very low income. Mum is depressed and her daughter is struggling with mental health, due to the trauma.

Total needed £200V has been working with Social Care since finding out she was pregnant last year. She was struggling with substance addiction, but was able to become abstinent from all drugs and alcohol. V, who has recently given birth, has now signed a tenancy agreement for a council house which was completely unfurnished with no flooring. She took a loan out to cover the cost of flooring, which we believe will put her in financial hardship when trying to repay. V would appreciate support with this. Many thanks.

Total needed £200This man, who is a resident with us in supported accommodation, is working with the Family Drug and Alcohol Court, with the hope of becoming sole carer for his children. As this does not allow him to commit to work at present, he finds that exercise helps with his mental health. This man would appreciate some help with gym membership costs of £100 over the next four months. He is also in need of some photo ID, so would appreciate help with the cost of applying for a passport online, which would be £88.50. Thank you.

Total needed £190This mother, who was referred to us by a sister organisation, is living in local authority accommodation which has developed a severe mould problem. As a result, mum was forced to move into temporary housing until the issue was resolved. Now that she has returned to her home, many of her belongings are damaged beyond repair. Mum urgently needs a new bed and mattress, among other things. Any help towards this endeavour will be greatly appreciated.

Total needed £200C has no photo ID. Due to suffering from addiction, he has voluntarily surrendered his driving licence, which means that photo ID in the form of a licence is not a option. He is close to being tenancy ready and has made huge progress with Hope Housing. C came to us following a very hard bereavement and trauma after the Bradford City fire. Assisting him in gaining his independence back, through having ID, would greatly help C in moving forward with his life.

Total needed £90Our client, B, has been homeless for several years, but has now been given a council flat, but the flat is unfurnished and she needs various items: a fridge, rugs for the bare floors, curtains for privacy, and bookshelves. We are intending to buy as much as we can second-hand. B only has a small pension to manage on and has no spare funds. She has recently had a severe brain injury, leaving her with memory and health issues, so help to furnish her new home would be much appreciated.

Total needed £200R, who left supported accommodation in September 2024, has worked hard to make a home for himself in his new flat. He has managed to get a cooker, but has been without a washing machine for a long time and is currently having to ask his neighbour to help him. R would love to get his own washing machine. He is working hard at his recovery from addiction and has been engaging with our support groups over the last year. Being able to get the washing machine would be a huge boost for him.

Total needed £200T, who has recently received full custody of his children, is a single dad of five on a very low income. His washing machine has broken and he just cannot afford to get a replacement. Friends have been helping, but now with the school holidays, they cannot, and family live too far away. T will not go into debt as he’s already struggling and does not wish to add anymore stress to his life. He has tried washing by hand, but only managed to make things worse.

Total needed £200J, who came to us after living in a hostel for over nine months, has been homeless, on and off, his whole adult life. This client urgently needs some new footwear, as his trainers are literally falling apart and he owns very little clothes. J is on a very low income and he is ready for a fresh start, which involves making a routine. I would like him, if possible, to have a gym membership for his mental wellbeing and some new trainers and gym pants. Many thanks in advance.

Total needed £150This gentleman has been attending the St Vincent de Paul centre for several months. His mental health was severely impacted, but through collaboration with the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) mental health team and our services, he has made significant progress. Now working towards personal empowerment and independence, this gentleman has applied to be a mechanic in Basildon. We request assistance in purchasing comfortable workwear (shoes, trousers and a jacket) and transport fees for two weeks to support his journey to personal independence. Thank you for your support.

Total needed £200A has been attending Glasgow City Mission for nine months and participated in many of our community activities, including college classes and Bible studies. He also serves other guests through our Guest Trainee programme. A has just moved into his first permanent home having been granted asylum, but it was completely bare and unfurnished. He has managed to decorate and furnish with basic items, but would love carpets to make things more homely. A would be hugely grateful of any support he receives.

Total needed £200CF is currently in temporary accommodation with her partner. They have a history of homelessness and substance misuse, however, they have recently found faith and are making changes in their life. CF has been in the process of applying for ID, as she wants to find some permanent accommodation. She has a birth certificate, but would now like to use this to apply for a passport. CF receives the lowest level of Universal Credit, so she does not have funds for this. This ID will help her to move forward.

Total needed £100Our client has recently moved to the area with his children, leaving mum behind, as she is currently unfit to parent. He is low down on the housing list, but has managed to get a small flat. Our client has had to leave his job to look after the children, one who has autism. Dad is applying for benefits, but no money has come through yet. His flat doesn't have a washing machine so we would like to be able to provide one.

Total needed £200Mum is a single parent to her two children. The family recently had to move to a new area, following a relationship breakdown. The family are struggling financially and mum is struggling to sort out the house, so it feels like a home for the family. This lady doesn't have anywhere to store her or her children's clothes, and they are currently in bags on the floor. We would love to help the family with a wardrobe to help mum declutter the home. This would help build her confidence and happiness.
