Give to someone in need
Acts 435 is about giving to people directly, to help them bridge the gap when they are facing a financial crisis.
Can you help a specific person in need?
Read stories of the applicants below and give as you feel able. Any amount will make a big difference to someone who is struggling.
You can instead make a general donation and the Acts 435 team will allocate it to the most urgent requests.
K and J are parents to four children. K is currently studying and in her final year before being offered a paid, permanent placement in the public health sector, and J is now self-employed. The family receives Universal Credit, support from the local authority for school uniform. The children need new school shoes and financial support with topping up school lunch accounts. One of the children also needs a new coat as they have outgrown theirs.

Total needed £150Our client had a stroke on the right side of his body, causing him to be hospitalised since summer 2022. He has also suffered a relationship breakdown and could have been homeless when discharged from the Stroke Unit. Our client has recently secured some accommodation, but it is completely empty. A bed would ensure that he is as comfortable as possible on discharge. However, as our client is in receipt of Universal Credit, he cannot afford a mattress. Thank you so much for reading this.

Total needed £175W lived in a private rented home for many years, but had problems with repairs. Through no fault of her own, she was evicted and became homeless in mid 2023. She was put in temporary accommodation and now has permanent place from a housing association. W is having to start from scratch, and a washing machine would be wonderful for her. She works part-time, escorting disabled children on the bus to school and is also is in receipt of Universal Credit. Thank you for considering this request.

Total needed £200Our client was living with his family until August 2022 when the relationship broke down. He then slept on the sofa at his brother's house, but after his brother died, he was asked to leave. Our client began riding the 53 bus and was picked up by Streetlink at Elephant and Castle. He was taken to St Mungo's and then put in temporary accommodation by Lewisham's rough sleepers team. Our client has finally been placed in permanent housing and would be so grateful for a fridge freezer, which he cannot afford as he is on Universal Credit.

Total needed £200Our client, who suffers from hypertension and depression, is an asylum seeker from Pakistan who has been resident in the UK for twenty years. He has obtained charitable funding to pay for a solicitor who will represent his asylum appeal. However, there are additional costs that our client cannot meet, as he is reliant on friends for accommodation, food and basic needs. He requires an ID card and passport from his country of origin, a statement of his NHS history and travel costs to the High commission. Our client hopes for permission to remain and to work in haematology within the NHS.

Total needed £200My client, who has two school aged children, has been without a washing machine for two months. She struggles financially with her daily needs and relies heavily on food and fuel banks to look after her household. My client doesn't have any family or friends close by so cannot use their washing machine, and the cost of a laundrette is eating away at their food budget. Christians Against Poverty has recently helped with her debts, but mum is unable to work, due to female health issues.

Total needed £200RT is a Ghanaian national who has lived in the UK for many years. She has been homeless for around fifteen years and has solely relied on her friends in the UK for accommodation, food and essentials. We have assisted RT to make an application for leave to remain, but she does not have any form of ID except for her birth certificate, as she has never been able to pay the fee for a new passport. Unfortunately, the Home Office does not accept birth certificates as sufficient ID for an application. Please can you help RT to get a passport?

Total needed £100This lady, who is in her late sixties, has mobility and other health issues. She had to move from her home, following a severe leak and repair issues. Following refurbishment, this lady can now move back in, but needs floor covering for her living room and bedroom, as her carpets were damaged and she had no insurance. This lady has little savings, and the property will be cold without floor covering, which will not help her health.

Total needed £150P was just about managing in Housing Association accommodation when Covid hit. With only his pension and pension credit, he got into rent arrears and was eventually evicted. Having been in temporary accommodation since then has been difficult, but he has now secured permanent accommodation. However, it is completely unfurnished and he must start again. A bed frame would prevent P from having to sleep on the floor, and help him regain some self-esteem and confidence so that he can get back on his feet.
